What’s Happening
July 2017

To give you a taste of what’s going on in Merseyside’s live music scene over the next month, here are the July What’s Happening playlists.

As well as the musical feast that is Liverpool International Music Festival, there is also a host of gigs going on in town and another festival in the form of Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival – all ably represented on our playlists this month.

This year flying the flag for Merseyside are a top class bunch of artists – we have a mixture of established, up-and-comers, and inbetweeners on our playlist. In Sefton Park over the 21st-23rd July you’ll find CAST, SHE DREW THE GUN, ALI HORN and SUGARMEN. There’s also international big hitters in the form of CORINNE BAILEY RAE and FUSE ODG. Also originating from Africa, Sudan-born ALSARAH AND THE NUBATONES play this years Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival as part of a varied but always interesting line-up. Former Sound Station prize finalists THE BASEMENT EFFECT play a headline show at Arts Club on 1st July. The awesome COLOUR head-up a great line-up in aid of the Whitechapel Centre for a gig at 24 Kitchen Street on 7th July. Country rockers JESSE MALIN returns to Liverpool on 9th July when he also plays Arts Club. Newbies THE FERNWEH headline the Bido Lito! Social at the Shipping Forecast on 20th July with support from GINTIS. Local promoters Howl At The Moon bow out with a typically leftfield gig featuring JD MEATYARD ¬†on the 29th July at Drop The Dumbulls and OHMNS, who also play with THE GORIES on 13th July. Two legends grace the Exhibition Centre this month when Liverpool welcomes Beach Boy BRIAN WILSON (28th July) and GARY NUMAN (27th July). Despite the plethora of festivals happening, there are also excellent local live gigs from THE BOHOS (7th July) and SAINT MOTEL (12th July).

Got a gig coming up? Post your music to the Merseyrail Sound Station Facebook Page and tell us about it.
